William Thackray's will (born 1786, died 1863)

This is the last will and testament of me William Thackray of Colton
in the Manor of Templenewsam in the parish of Whitkirk in the County
of York. Yeoman Whereby I appoint my brother John Thackray of Otley
in the said County Gentleman and my sons George Thackray and Henry
Thackray trustees and executors to whom I give and bequeath the sum
of three pounds each in consideration of the trouble they will have
I direct all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses to be
paid by my said Executors I give and bequeath the legacies and
bequests following that is to say

To my said Son Henry the sum of Nine pounds
To my said Son Joseph four pounds and my large Bible and Testament
To my Granddaughter Hannah Longfield all the books
that formerly belonged to her father and mother and also all the
furniture beds and bedding which formerly belonged to her father
and mother (except the best bedstead)
To my Daughter Alice Carver my best Sofa
To my son George Four pounds
To my son Charles Four pounds
To my Sons and Daughters living at my decease I give the remainder of my books in equal shares
To my daughter Harriet the sum of Seven pounds for wages
To my son Henry and my daughter Harriet I give all my furniture and household
effects (except what I have hereinbefore disposed of) in equal
shares and as to all the rest and residue of my personal estate
including any of the aforesaid legacies or bequests which may lapse
and as to all my real estate I give devise and bequeath the same

Unto the said John Thackray George Thackray and Henry Thackray their
heirs executors administrators and assigns Upon trust to sell my
real estate and to convert get in and receive the remainder of my
personal estate and effects and to divide the proceeds after payment
of all debts funeral testamentary and trust expenses in manner
following that is to say
One twelfth part to my daughter Mary Wife of Robert Burnell absolutely
One twelfth part to my Son Joseph absolutely
One twelfth part to my Son William absolutely
One twelfth part to my Son George absolutely
One twelfth part to my Son Charles absolutely
One twelfth part to my daughter Ann the Wife of Edward " " Hill absolutely
One twelfth part to my daughter Alice the Wife of George Carver absolutely
One twelfth part to and equally between such of the children of my late daughter
Hannah Kettlewell as shall be living at my decease or to such one child wholly if
only one should be living
One twelfth part to and equally between such of the children of my late daughter
Jane Longfield deceased as shall be living at my decease or to such one child wholly if
only one should be living
One twelfth part to my Son Henry absolutely
One twelfth part to my daughter Harriet absolutely and
One twelfth part to my Son James
absolutely my son John is excluded from all
benefit under this residuary disposition as I consider he has already
had his full share but this declaration is not to give him any alarm
or interest by implication in case he should not happen to have had
such full share
In case any of my Grandchildren the children of my
said Daughter Hannah shall survive me and die under the age of
twenty one then their share or shares shall go to and be divided
amongst the surviving Grandchildren or to the surviving Grandchild
at the age of twenty one and the same rule shall apply in the case
of my Grandchildren the children of my said daughter Jane and I
give and bequeath accordingly
In case any of my said children Mary Joseph William George Charles
Ann Alice Henry Harriet and James should die in my lifetime I give
the share of any so dying unto and equally between and amongst the
children of such child so dying or if but one child of such child
then to such one wholly
If any of them the said Mary Joseph William George Charles Ann Alice Henry
Harriet and James should die in my lifetime without issue or leaving
such they should all die under the age of twenty one then the share
or shares of such of them the gift whereof shall
